"Leaders are not what many people think–people with huge crowds following them. Leaders are people who go their own way without caring, or even looking to see whether anyone is following them. “Leadership qualities” are not the qualities that enable people to attract followers, but those that enable them to do without them. They include, at the very least, courage, endurance, patience, humor, flexibility, resourcefulness, determination, a keen sense of reality, and the ability to keep a cool and clear head even when things are going badly. This is the opposite of the “charisma” that we hear so much about."

"Silicon Valley capitalism had arguably delivered what the Soviets had dreamed of and failed, modernism for the masses. An iPhone really is the best phone you can buy at any price. To paraphrase Andy Warhol: Lady Gaga uses an iPhone, and just think, you can have an iPhone too. An iPhone is an iPhone and no amount of money can get you a better phone. This was what American modernism was about."

"Welch said Apple informed Intel that it better drastically slash its power consumption or would likely lose Apple’s business. “It was a real wake-up call to us,” he said."

Great reporting by some old guy with a mustache writing for a Wall Street enthusiast site.

If Intel hasn’t realized the importance of battery life towards a positive user experience, Apple must be counting down the days until an ARM chip can power a MacBook Air. Expect the new chips to invade Apple’s low horsepower computers and work its way to the top. I wouldn’t be surprised within 5 years if it is possible on all portables (and perhaps the Mac Mini) to get an ARM chip default.

It’s good to see when such basic ideas are rethought and innovated, its disappointing when technologies such as home phones and alarm clocks stagnate…

The sad part is too often the results are vaporware…

Of course, this alarm clock can be bought for the affordable price of $149, oh joy!
